Trains (Railways)

Barcelona has an extensive underground transport network, as well as the RENFE trains and their short distance lines called Rodalies. There are also the FGC trains. The Rodalies trains are suitable for commuters as well as for people making short trips to the places outside Barcelona. Most of the trains head towards northern or southern areas such as Blanes or Sitges.

Stations

Estació de Sants is the main station situated in the west of Barcelona (between Avengida Diagonal and Plaza de España). The majority of the short and long distance trains that operate out of this modern station go towards France or the rest of Spain. Metro lines L3 and L5 stop here.

Estació de França is a nostalgic end-of-the-line station situated south of Barcelona’s Ciutadella park. Here is where the National upper class trains depart and arrive. The Metro station Barceloneta (L4) is only a few 100 meters away.

Passeig de Gràcia station is an underground station. Many short distance trains to and from Estació de Sants pass through here. Metro lines L2, L3, L4 and FCG also stops here.

At Barcelona’s Estació Plaça de España you can take the FGC trains, for example towards Montserrat and Manresa, as well as Metro lines L1 and L3.

Plaça de Catalunya serves the FGC lines towards Tibidabo, Sant Cugat and the northern cities, as well as many Rodalies lines. Here you can also find the Metro lines L1 and L3.

Short distance travel

The tickets are valid on the Metro, FGC, buses and Rodalies through out the whole city. The Underground train has two lines, which connects the city centre with the higher suburbs. They also connect with some Metro stations.

*The price for a one-way ticket in zone 1 is 1,30 €, a Targeta and a ticket for 10 journeys costs 7,20€

*For longer distance travels, you may have to purchase a special ticket. Ask on the stations.
